Douglasville, Ga. (Jan. 2025) —A special resident of The Harbor at Douglasville, Angie Rucker, will celebrate her 100th birthday on January 27th. The premier memory care community will celebrate Rucker’s milestone birthday with a party on January 25th.

Born and raised in Newton, Mississippi, Ms. Rucker was born the second of nine children, having seven sisters and one brother. Longing for adventure, Ms. Rucker moved to Chicago at the age of 19 where she secured a job at R.R. Donnelly, a printing company that handled catalog production for companies like Sears and Montgomery Ward.

While living in Chicago, Ms. Rucker met and married Joe W. Baker and had three children: Rhonda, Gregory and Spencer. The family moved to Detroit, Michigan together, but eventually the couple parted ways. She took up work as a housekeeper while she attended school and earned a degree in cosmetology. She eventually earned her real estate license, which she enjoyed doing for many years thereafter. A woman of many talents, Ms. Rucker also knew how to sew, and sewed professionally, making curtains and clothing.

After getting married to Floyd Rucker, the couple moved to California and lived there for several years. They later moved to Las Vegas, Georgia and Ohio until they eventually returned to Michigan. When she started needing more assistance, she moved to Douglasville to be close to her son, Gregory.

Ms. Rucker is a fun-loving, wise, talented and hard-working woman who loves her family, dancing and gathering for parties and reunions. Her children have given her a combined total of 31 grandchildren and great-grandchildren! She is also blessed to have numerous nieces, nephews and extended family, both related and “adopted” into the family.

“Having Ms. Angie as a part of our Harbor family is such an honor. She brings joy and entertainment to us on a daily basis. We are excited to celebrate this milestone birthday with her,” said Oree Williams, Executive Director of The Harbor at Douglasville.

Ms. Rucker is most proud of the legacy she has created through her children and family, but also takes pride in the accomplishments she achieved through her strong work ethic, desire to achieve and determination to never give up.
